The JRC Movie Night was held on 30 May 2006 at Eng Wah Suntec City. Due in part to the popularity of the blockbuster movie X-Men III being screened, the response from staff was so overwhelming that the committee had to book an additional theatre to accommodate the crowd.
The JRC Dinner and Dance held on 1 July 2006 at the Marriott Hotel was met with equal enthusiasm with a turnout of 440 staff from the Supreme Court and the Subordinate Courts. Many, including the Registrar of the Supreme Court, came dressed to match the dinner’s “Back to School” theme and were pleasantly greeted with scenes from their old school days, including a “tin-tin” candy man. Highlights included exhilarating performances by traditional Scottish bag-pipers as well as energetic and spunky cheerleaders. The evening culminated with the Grand Draw, which saw the winner walking away with the coveted Grand Prize – a three-day stay at Club Med Bintan.
For the first time, a JRC Amazing Race was organised on 16 September 2006 at East Coast Park. The 12 teams which participated were highly competitive and had to complete roadblocks and challenges such as balloon-sculpting and jigsaw-puzzles.

Supreme Court staff welcomed 106 residents from five old folks’ homes on 1 December 2006. Held in the main atrium of the building, the event was part of the Supreme Court’s efforts to reach out to the aged and less privileged in society, as well as care for the community in which the Supreme Court serves.
Residents from the Geylang East Home for the Aged, Pertapis Senior Citizens Fellowship Home, Rochore Kongsi Home for the Aged, Zion Home for the Aged and the Asian Women’s Welfare Association Community Home for Senior Citizens were welcomed with a sumptuous eight-course dinner and performances that were put together by the staff with much sincerity.
The Chief Justice and Judges of the Supreme Court also joined in the event and presented ang pows to our guests to commemorate the event. This is the second time that staff of the Supreme Court, with the strong support of the Chief Justice and other members of the Supreme Court Bench, have organised a community care project. The first project was held in 1998.

Following from the success of the first Staff Lecture Series which was inaugurated last year, a second series was conducted for staff to enhance their knowledge of legal rules and concepts. Helmed once more by the Deputy Registrar, with the assistance of nine Justices’ Law Clerks who presented the lectures, staff learnt about basic legal concepts from contract law to tort law. Staff have provided positive feedback that these sessions equip them with the additional knowledge and confidence to handle queries from the public competently.

Staff were treated to healthy food and snacks with the distribution of Health Promotion Board endorsed “healthier items” such as canola oil, fruit juices and jams. A health screening exercise was also organised for all staff in October. In addition to the complimentary tests for blood pressure, cholesterol level and blood glucose, staff were also given the option of selecting additional tests at subsidised rates.
Healthy competition between the various directorates ensued on 18 August 2006 with a unique “Supreme Ball” tournament which saw Judges, Registrars and staff from all levels battle it out in a different court to rules borrowed from both Captain’s ball and Basketball. A more conventional “Supreme Court Street Soccer” tournament was organised on 17 November 2006 for those who preferred using fancy footwork to net the ball.

After the singing of the national anthem and the taking of the SAF pledge, one representative from each organisation was invited to sign the Declaration of Support.
