STAFF and ORGANISATION
Supreme Court Leadership Retreat 2007
The Supreme Court’s Leadership Retreat, which was held on 9 March 2007 at the Outward Bound School (Pulau Ubin), was attended by some 50 members of staff comprising senior management as well as Heads and Deputy Heads of Sections. The key emphasis for this year’s retreat was leadership development. In this respect, middle management supervisors were appointed as team leaders and activity leaders.

Charged from rounds of pre-retreat discussions and research, the leaders and their four teams arrived on Pulau Ubin and navigated their way to various checkpoints designed to highlight
key lessons in teamwork and planning, trust and communication, and the joy and satisfaction of exploring and achieving something together. Points earned from these activities were then exchanged for materials to build a trebuchet for the programme’s finale. The team whose trebuchet propelled
its “ammunition” the longest distance was declared the winner.

JUDICIAry RECREATION CLUB (JRC) EVENTS
Movie Night
The JRC’s Movie Night 2007 featuring the much-anticipated screening of “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”, which was held on 4 June 2007 at Golden Village VivoCity, was a sellout! Staff were also treated to bento boxes of light bites and snacks such as yakitori delights. It was a fun-filled night of camaraderie, good food and first-class entertainment!
Dinner & Dance: “Historic Singapore”

Cast your mind back to the days of old... Scenes of preceding generations, previously restricted to the realm of the imagination, were re-created at the Marriott Hotel on 28 July 2007 as more than 450 members of staff from the Supreme Court and the Subordinate Courts, together with their friends and relatives, gathered for the JRC’s Dinner & Dance 2007. In line with this year’s theme, “Historic Singapore”, the ballroom was decked with lanterns, with “oldies” music wafting in to generate a mood of nostalgia.
The ever-sporting attendees came dressed as “samsui women”, policemen
decked in khaki shorts and suspenders, satay hawkers replete with paraphernalia,
elegant “tai-tai”s clad in Victorian gowns – and even pirates. At the end of the night, an attractive range of more than 200 lucky draw prizes provided the icing on the cake.
Survivor
Following the success of last year’s Amazing Race, the JRC organised Survivor
2007 on 3 November at Pulau Blakang Mati, better known to some as Sentosa Island. A total of 8 teams from the Supreme Court and the Subordinate Courts gathered at Palawan Beach to receive their secret instructions and begin their
quest for clues leading to mystery locations and a chance to win bonus prizes. At the various stations, the teams gamely tackled unique challenges ranging from treasure hunts, chin-chow drinking competitions and pole dances to impromptu skits. Attractive prizes were given to the teams that successfully outwitted, outplayed and outlasted!

SUPREME COURT STAFF COMmUNITY DAY
Spurred on by the success of the previous two community projects, the Supreme Court organised another project on 30 November 2007 to reach out to the less privileged. 100 elderly persons from the Bukit Batok Home for the Aged, accompanied by 10 staff from the Home, were treated to a “HIPPO” bus city tour. The tour route covered Orchard Road, the Esplanade, the banks of Singapore River and the Padang, among other places.
After the city tour, the guests partook in a sumptuous 6-course dinner while
enjoying the entertainment put up by the staff of the Supreme Court. They also took part in games and a lucky draw. The evening ended with the Chief Justice
and the Judges of the Court giving out red packets to the guests.

This community outreach event proved to be a meaningful and enjoyable experience for the Supreme Court staff as well as the invited guests, who, touched
by the warmth and hospitality with which they were received, left with happy smiles on their faces.
