Asia Pacific Judicial Reform Forum 2009

From 19 to 21 January 2009, Singapore played host to the Third Roundtable Meeting of the Asia Pacific Judicial Reform Forum (APJRF) 2009. The APJRF is a network of 49 superior courts and justice sector agencies in the Asia Pacific region that have joined together to contribute to judicial reform in the region.

Jointly organised by the Supreme Court and the Subordinate Courts, in collaboration with the APJRF Secretariat from Australia, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Democracy Fund, and the Australian Agency for International Development, the event presented a platform for participants to review and discuss the chapters of a judicial reform publication written by forum member countries, and to exchange knowledge on the judicial reform programmes implemented in several member countries. Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong delivered the welcome address, where he shared Singapore’s experience in judicial reform and case management. Judge of Appeal V K Rajah and Justice Judith Prakash also presented papers on “Ethics, Integrity and Judicial Accountability” and “Judicial Administration and Management” respectively.

The forum was attended by more than 80 foreign delegates from over 25 countries, including the Chief Justices of Bangladesh, Lao PDR, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Nepal and Vanuatu.
