Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong conferred the International Jurists Award 2009
The Honourable Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong received the prestigious International Jurists Award - 2009 for outstanding contribution in the area of administration of justice on Saturday, 21 November 2009. The award was presented to the Chief Justice by Her Excellency the President of India, Mrs Pratibha D Patil, at the International Conference of Jurists on International Terrorism at the Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Chief Justice Chan gave an address before he received the award. Previous recipients of the International Jurists Award for outstanding contribution in the area of administration of justice include the President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, the Right Honourable Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, and the Chief Justice of Canada, the Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin. |

Appointment of Judicial Commissioners of the Supreme Court
The President, acting in his discretion in accordance with Article 94(4) of the Constitution, and in concurrence with the advice of the Prime Minister, has appointed the following as Judicial Commissioners of the Supreme Court for a period of one year, with effect from the dates shown: a. Mr Quentin Loh Sze On , wef 1 September 2009: b. Mr Steven Chong, wef 1 October 2009; and c. Dr Philip Pillai, wef 1 October 2009. |

Advisory - Precautionary Measures Against Influenza A (H1N1)
Court hearings and operations at the Supreme Court will continue as usual. However, visitors running a fever (38 degrees Celsius) or displaying flu-like symptoms such as severe sneezing or coughing are advised to see a doctor. Should court users be unable to attend court hearings because of this, the Legal Registry will make the necessary arrangements to reschedule their hearing dates. Queries may be directed to the Supreme Court at (1800) 338 1034. |
